Giving Materials a Second Life: How The Plattsmouth Team Turned Demolition into Opportunity

When the news broke that our Highway building in Plattsmouth was scheduled for demolition, most saw it as the end of an era. But for our Plattsmouth team, it sparked something entirely different – an opportunity to create impact beyond the walls of the office.

Led by Loan Officer Anna Bohlken, the team rallied around the idea of sustainability and community impact. United by their shared values, they reached out to Habitat for Humanity with a mission: to ensure that usable materials from the soon-to-be-demolished building – including doors, trim, ceiling tiles, windows, and more – would not be discarded, but instead repurposed.

Thanks to their collective initiative, Habitat for Humanity was able to carefully recover a wide array of construction materials before the demolition began. These salvaged items will now find new life in future home builds, directly supporting local families on their journey to homeownership.

This effort is a powerful example of what can be achieved through teamwork and vision. By viewing change through the lens of opportunity, the Plattsmouth team not only prevented waste but helped create new beginnings for others in the community.

At First State Bank Nebraska, we’re proud of team members who lead with purpose, creativity, and compassion. Their collaboration – is a reminder that every transition can be a chance to do good and build something better.
