Celebrating local roots, growing together.
For Brent and Sharlyn (Shar) Sieck, the idea behind HeatSiecker was born out of necessity and nurtured by a lifetime in agriculture.
As fifth-generation farmers and cattle producers, Brent and Shar understand the daily challenges of livestock management. One of those challenges is accurately detecting when cattle are in heat to optimize breeding success. Their patented HeatSiecker Heat Detection System has helped farmers and ranchers across the country.
“The traits that distinguish Brent and Shar the most include their innovativeness, determination, perseverance, integrity, and work ethic,” said Tanner Smith, Loan Officer at First State Bank Nebraska.
Brent’s passion for cattle reproduction and artificial insemination (AI) developed early in life. “I took my first AI class in high school back in 1985,” he recalled. Since then, he has bred and sold cattle across the country, breeding local, state, and national champions. With a degree in Animal Science from the University of Nebraska and a certification in embryo transfer, Brent knows firsthand how critical timing is in artificial insemination.
Through years of trial and error, HeatSiecker came to life. The product is a smart sensor patch that attaches to a cow’s back and sends real-time alerts to the cattle producer’s phone, eliminating guesswork and improving breeding efficiency. HeatSiecker has proven to be a fast-growing business. Customers have been using HeatSiecker in 39 different states, as well as Canada. The Alaska Game and Parks department even purchased HeatSiecker to use on moose to determine when breeding occurs.
Looking ahead, the Siecks envision their product becoming a necessity for cattle producers. “As our business continues to grow, we see Heat Siecker being a must have for cattle producers to be efficient in their breeding programs,” said Brent, “In the next five to ten years, as technology continues to evolve, we know cattle programs will rely on Heat Siecker.”
Brent and Shar’s business experience included trial and error. They offered some advice for those that are thinking about starting a small business. “Never give up,” Brent said, “Don’t accept no for an answer. It takes all the nos to get to the yesses.”
